Bachelor of Arts Degree

[Return to The International University Directory]
The Bachelor's degree program in Applied Consciousness Studies is designed to provide the student with historical and contemporary perspectives in topics that are integral to the understanding of the nature of consciousness. The study of consciousness requires an understanding of a variety of human and natural processes, resulting in a curriculum that incorporates many traditional university level subjects into one course of study.

The B.A. level course work is designed to be a two year upper-level undergraduate degree program. The requirement for admission to the program therefore is one of the following :

1. Two years (minimum) undergraduate credit at a college or university,
2. An A.A. degree from a two-year college,
3. Work experience and personal study equivalent to two years of undergraduate work

In addition to previous study or equivalent credit, the student must demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communications, and in basic college-level mathematics and personal computer/internet skills.

The curriculum is based on 4 six-month semesters of study. The Bachelor's degree student is required to take all core courses, some of which provide for customizing subjects to the student's personal interests, as well as certain elective tracks within required courses. A senior thesis is included in the core requirements. This course specifically requires the student to select an area of interest for more in-depth study.

In addition to the course work, each student must keep a journal that will provide a basis for assignments and self-discovery. The journal is completely private, and only used by the student to gain an experiential approach to the subject.

A student may place out of certain core courses based on previous study or work experience. In this case, graduate courses may be substituted for an undergraduate course, with the permission of the instructor.

The program is non-residential. Primary correspondence is via internet/email. The experiential nature of the subject matter will in addition require periodic meetings between staff and applicant.

Tuition and Costs:

$3800 per 2 semester academic year. Cost is based on academic registration, and not on calendar years (i.e., the applicant registers each semester at the completion of the previous semester's work. The time required for the student to complete a semester of academic/experiential work may vary).

Tuition may be paid at the beginning of each semester, or on a monthly payment schedule, as follows:

Monthly plan: initial $500 payment, followed by monthly payments of $325.

(The student may quit the program at any time. However, tuition payments will not be refunded.)

Additional costs:

The experiential nature of the subject motivates many students to explore techniques and principles on a deep personal level. The staff is available to supplement the degree program with individual Accelerated Personal Growth and Development coaching. Personal coaching is done is session with the coach, with some follow-up via email, if requested.

The cost of all travel, books, and materials will be the responsibility of the student, in addition to tuition. These additional expenses will be estimated at the beginning of each semester, and will vary according to the course work.
